Gary Patrick is the youngest of four siblings, raised in a house full of music. His mother, who sang with the voice of an angel, gave him the love of classics, church hymns and the heart to lift up with song, while his father shared the gift of storytelling thru artists, Waylon and Willie.
Gary’s siblings influenced him with fantastic artists such as Boston, Dire Straits, Dan Fogelberg, Toto and The Eagles to name a few, but the biggest ah-ha moment was when he heard Neil Diamond’s “Play Me”. That music resonated with him like no other and claims his heart beats to a 6/8 time signature because of it.
By the age of eight, Gary Shanghaied his brother’s guitar and there was no turning back. Nine years he studied with his first mentor, Tom Russell. After High School Graduation, Gary turned 18 in sunny Southern California. After a short tenure with aeronautical engineering, young Patrick realized his heart and talent belonged to music and shifted gears.
Southern California was the perfect environment for Gary to begin his career. He claims some of his best friends and relationships began there. At 21 years of age he was playing in bars up and down the Orange County Coastline. In 1995, Gary had the opportunity to play guitar and sing with the Wilson Sisters (daughters of Beach Boy founder, Brian Wilson) on a few TV appearances and radio station tours across the country. At the same time, he recorded his first Album, “Fish Fry”.
A music career is hard at best, and takes constant refining on all levels, says Patrick. One opportunity led to another, and Gary found himself leading one of the House Bands at the famous Mirage and Bellagio Casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada for over seven years. He always surrounded himself with the finest musicians. Those years were priceless, claims Patrick, as they afforded him the opportunity to grow and simply work with others in a highly stressful environment.
Near the end of Gary’s tenure in Vegas, he met one of his most influential friendships to date. Friend, mentor and co-writer, Ken Orsow. Patrick and Orsow write together over the phone only using earbuds since 2006. His next adventure took him to Nashville, where he immersed himself into songwriting and recording publishing demos.
Gary’s next serendipitous moment happened when he met dear friend and record producer, Chad Mauldin in East Texas. Together, they’ve recorded 4 album projects together. Through Mauldin’s connections, Gary recorded the electric guitar tracks for the number one song in the country for American Idol Star, Fritz Hager as well as his whole 2022 album. Currently, Patrick is releasing singles for his highly anticipated 6th album, “High to Ride”. Patrick quotes, “It’s the most cohesive album I’ve recorded.. it actually feels like a debut album”.
